Who Are You Working to Become?

A couple weeks ago I made a blog post about the importance of asking questions. I think an important question we should ask ourselves is who inspires us and why? I’ll give an example by using both my grandmothers. I have one grandmother who worked towards creating her own counseling business, she is always learning, and she is always respectful, with a little sass to it. I have another grandmother who is very down to Earth, put her love in her food, very independent, very observant, so she did not say much, but she did not miss a beat either. Both women had a man at home too, but did not lose focus on bettering themselves daily.

I think it is important to recognize who inspires us and why, to understand where we are today. I was surrounded by women who emphasized the importance of being reliable and dependable, but also emphasized the importance of independence and having respect for yourself. My grandmother always said, “Be a lady.” Today, I sometimes find trouble on working on being a better me for ME. I quickly ease my mind by reminding myself that my grandmothers inspire me and it didn’t take overnight for them to become who they are either. I remind myself to take my time, but whenever I feel lost on what I’m doing, I simply think about the person I want to be and who depicts those characteristics, my grandmothers. The more I remind myself of why they inspired me, the easier it has become to work on myself. Every day is a new day to start working on yourself but I think a reflection of what inspires you will keep you going when things get hard.

If you have a lack of inspiration, just think about the top 5 things that are important to you and why. What meanings do some of your main priorities have and where do they stem from? A family member, your favorite author, your next door neighbor? Life can be perceived in a much better light when you are reminded of what inspired you to keep going, don’t lose sight of it!
