Treat Your Passion Like Your Homework: Break it Down

How to break down your passion into a daily routine.

Lately, as always, I have been thinking about my future and how exactly I may get there. I think big, I think far, and then I freak out because I am nowhere near my destination, but is that really true or is it just my viewpoint?
So how do I calm my mind? How do I stop and think for a second about what I can do right now at this very moment? I break it down, piece by piece. I think about the very steps I need to take today that will make me a little closer to my destination tomorrow, even if it is just simply writing out the plan to make sure there is some flow.
Tip #1 - Write it out
Where do you see yourself in the years to come? What steps need to be taken sooner than later to get there? WRITE IT DOWN AND DON'T LOSE IT!
Tip #2 - Step away......then come back
Once you have an idea of what you want to do, who you want to be, where you want to go, etc., you probably drafted out a nice map. Now step away from the map. *1 business day later* Welcome back to your map! Now let's see if there are any adjustments you believe need to be made, or maybe it is perfect just the way it is.
Tip #3 - Share it with others
SHARE YOUR PLANS WITH YOUR CLOSE ONES! Gain new ideas, and insights that can contribute to your plans. Don't overwhelm yourself, but just imagine how much your ideas can be enhanced by just having a conversation about your plans with close friends or relatives.
Tip #4 - Create a folder
Keep track of your work. My biggest regret is coming up with cool ideas, knowing I have good examples in the past.....somewhere in my many folders. Keep your work in an organized, labeled folder. You may not need it for a while, but when the time comes, you don't want to make it a hassle to keep up with your past work.
Tip #5 - Give yourself a review, but be kind
As time goes by, plan a date or just begin to review your past work that were kept in your now organized folders. Time and time again I look back at my old journal entries and artwork and I can see how far my skills have grown over time. I think it is important to be able to look at our past selves and being able to visualize the growth, but be kind to yourself in the process. We all have areas where we could have done better, or worked a little harder, but that was then and our focus should be on the now, so be kind to yourself in the process.
ENJOY THE PROCESS
Breaking down your passion not only helps you to navigate where to go, but also allows you to enjoy the mini accomplishments. Don't forget to have fun in the process and remember your reasoning for doing it in the first place.
