Make a Commitment

What does it mean to be disciplined? Well when I looked online I found that being disciplined means, 'to train oneself to do something in a controlled and habitual way.' So being disciplined is setting up a routine and remaining consistent.

The problem here is that as humans, it is so easy for us to become distracted, to not want to do certain things on days we do not feel motivated (especially in a world filled with constant stimulation). Being disciplined does not require motivation, it requires COMMITMENT. I have learned unfortunately, how hard it is to remain committed when things get hard. On my hard days I do not want to put in the work, I do not want to wake up early, or get a head start on projects, but I have to remind myself that I made a commitment.

This year, I believe it is important to know when discipline needs to take part in our lives. Whether we are disciplining our finances, our relationships, our self-care, we must learn to not look at certain aspects in our lives as options, but as necessities for our current and future well- being.

I have often talked about taking our time and dusting ourselves off and trying again, which is all still very important to take into our daily lives. I also believe to take ourselves and others more seriously in life, we must learn to take responsibility and accountability for who we are and what we said we are going to do. An example: If you decided to be more active and created a workout routine for the week and you only completed 3/5 days, you started. On the other hand, you can also acknowledge that you did not complete your full routine and therefore next week’s goal is completing 4/5 days or all 5 days. Not completing your routine does not take away the fact that you began your workout. The objective is remaining committed to your routine even after the days you did not fully meet your goal.
