Dust Yourself Off and Try Again

Dust yourself off and try again they say. Work harder they say. Go to bed and wake up earlier they say!
I am constantly searching for my mojo routine that I can stick to for all of eternity!!! Okay, I am exaggerating and I am not sure if I can deal with the next 3 generations. Anyways, there are certain habits in my life that I would like to maintain for the greater good, or my personal health, or all the above, but I really want to make it happen. The problem is, I just can’t seem to keep my routine going. I will make a schedule to wake up, exercise, get work done, work on my “self-care” (gosh, I need a new word to use!), just to only wash my face, brush my teeth, and lay back in bed. I may also successfully complete my routine three days in a row and then I wake up late on my fourth day and completely give up on myself.
I had a meeting with a new therapist and let me just say it was one of the best things I did for myself now and later. I explained to her my want to be stable and content without beating myself up for not completing everything off my list. She simply explained the need to put the gun down, as no one is forcing me to have things done by a certain deadline except MYSELF. See, we cannot enjoy the routines we set for ourselves if we believe we have to have it done by a certain date and time. Now having set goals are great to have to keep you motivated but motivation can only last but so long. If you made a goal to finish reading three books by the end of the week and only read half of the first book, you still began the journey to complete the next two books. Rather than giving up on yourself and leaving your failures in the dust, keep going. If the opportunity is readily available to take on again the next day, or even the next hour, get some rest, get up, and try again, when you are ready (ready is not going to come knocking on your door, though).
It has been months and I am still working on sticking to my morning and evening routine. The real goal is to get in the habit of enjoying the process rather than feeling guilty by not getting everything done when we would have liked. Ask questions from others and gain insights on what they may suggest to maintain their routine because so many different people have so many different methods, and who says you have to stick to one???
