I stress, stress a lot. I stress to the point that I realized I can't keep taking medicinal herbs or making tea because it does not take away the thoughts I have within.

I know everyone has their own form of stress, but we can all use the same techniques to relieve the stress.
"Do you feel overwhelmed? Here's a book!"
Some of the techniques I use maybe a little different for some, but after taking suggestions from my mother and grandmother, I realized there are so many resources besides meditation and tea.
Tips on Relieving Stress
One way that I like to relieve my stress is first acknowledging the obvious fact that i am STRESSED OUT!
Sometimes I try to ignore the fact that my body is getting hot and my thoughts all over the place by trying my best to bring my thoughts together. After a while of listening to my never ending thoughts I started asking around to find out what other resources there may be out there.
Second, after evaluating my stressors I begin jotting down what I can do to calm my nerves. I was given the suggestion by my Mom to look up places I have always wanted to visit. You may be wondering what the hell that would do to help, but you would be surprised how simply looking at your favorite place to visit could take away what is currently stressing you out. I personally always look up pictures of mountains in Switzerland because it brings my mind at ease, but that may not be the ideal picture for everyone so start looking up your favorite places to visit!
My third tip is writing whatever is going through your mind. Sometimes when I can't get my thoughts together to think clearly, I write whatever comes to mind. I am always surprised at how much is going on in my head when I finally write it all out. Sometimes I write a page and other times I'll write 3+ pages, it really depends on how much clutter I have trapped in my head.
Lastly, I really enjoy reading to take my mind off anything negative. My top 3 favorite books are: The Other Woman by Joy Fielding, The Pilot's Wife by Anita Shreve, and The Alchemist by Paul Coehlo. These are just 3 of the many books I've read over the years, but I thought I should name my top favorites. I understand not everyone may be a book worm like myself, but if you research books that may fit your interest, you may be surprised how much a particular book can gain your interest.
I hope my tips are somewhat helpful as I do know these are personal self-help tips when I am under a great amount of stress, rather than my old habit of sleeping the pain away. I also do not expect all these tips to be used at once. I encourage everyone to research their own methods of managing their stress and apply it to their everyday lives.
